The Past, Present and Future

After OSU memorable season in 2010, finishing with an 11-1 record and a win over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl, it was later revealed by the NCAA that OSU had ineligible players. Upon release of information about the tattoo gate scandal, it called for resignation of legendary head coach Jim Tressel and vacated all wins from the 2010 season. Up to the challenge to return the Buckeyes to its national contention status in 2011, new coach and former defensive coordinator Luke Fickell embraced the position. While the 2011 season started well with the Buckeys going 2-0, the lost of talent, change in head coach and new quarterback proved to be too much for the Bucks resulting in a 6-7 season. Of the seven losing games, six of them were by a touchdown or less making them within reach, but a poor offense and passing game warranted several loses. Despite the anemic offense, the season provided great wins over Illinois for the Illibuck trophy and Wisconsin and highlights from players like Braxton Miller, Ryan Shazier, Johnathan Hankins, John Simon and company who have all taken positive steps in the right direction for OSU. Although Ohio State has the talent and leadership for a successful team who will lead the Buckeyes...

Fast forward a couple of months and the answer is Urban Meyer. Introduced as the 24th head coach for The Ohio State Buckeyes at the Indiana vs. OSU basketball game, Meyer introduced his family and what seemed to be the best coaching staff he could muster for the team. With the singular goal of "make the state of Ohio proud," Meyer has done just that both on and off the field. Bolstering Ohio State to #4 in the 2012 recruiting race, invigorating the team to eat healthy and lose weight, holding a Town Hall meeting to introduce the coaches and their wives to things they like for the students, and helping with the OSU Women's Football Clinic have all showed his dedication to the team and community. We can only hope that Meyer continues to honor his family's contract and puts his family and health first less he gets more heart problems and retires before his contract expires.

With just a few days before the start of the season the 2012 campaign for the Bucks, this seasons figures to be one of the more memorable ones yet. Already hyped by sports analysis, the Big Ten Network, ESPN, Lantern, Columbus Dispatch and several sport forums, articles and commentary have given fans a reason to be excited for their team and argue why they should expect more despite the bowl ban... Probably the best commentary this summer was seen in ESPNU All Access: Ohio State which showed the coaching that went into the team, the training by the players and their need for the "juice" and the funny side to a bunch of college students which can be seen here. So where will Ohio State finish.... 9-3, 7-5, 12-0. Tune in every week as Ohio State and its fans embark in the week the beginning of the Urban Era.
